Full-Time Equivalent (FTE, FTSE) Students (fall) - (used by THECB)

FTE is the percentage equivalent to full-time attendance: 1.0 FTE equals 100%, or full-time, student enrollment status. 0.5 FTE equals 50%, or half-time, student enrollment status.

Full-Time Equivalent (FTE, FTSE) Students (fall) - (used by IPEDS)

This variable is derived from the enrollment by race/ethnicity section of the IPEDS fall enrollment survey. The full-time equivalent of the institution's part-time enrollment is estimated and then added to the full-time enrollment of the institution. This formula has been used to produce the full-time equivalent enrollment that is published annually in the Digest of Education Statistics. The full-time equivalent of part-time enrollment is estimated by multiplying the part-time enrollment by factors that vary by control and level of institution and level of student. The following factors were used for FTE Student calculation:

  • Part-time undergraduate enrollment (line 22): Public 4-year .403543
  • First professional (line 23): Public 4-year .600000
  • Graduate (line 25): Public 4-year .361702
Faculty Headcount (fall) - (used by THECB)

Headcount reflects the number of faculty, excluding teaching assistants, at the reporting institution as of the official census data, which is the 12th class day for the fall semester.

Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) Faculty (fall) - (used by THECB)

(Can be limited to Tenured/Tenure-Track)

The percentage equivalent to full-time work at the reporting institution as of the official census date, which is the 12th class day for the fall semester.

For Academic Institutions, FTE faculty only include faculty with teaching appointments. The FTE calculation is based on instructional appointments: Instructional Appointment 01 (direct instruction) + Administrative Appointment 02 (administrative appointment which directly supplements the teaching function).

For Health-Related Institutions, the FTE faculty calculation includes all appointment categories: Instructional Appointment 01 (direct instruction) + Appointment 03 (patient care) + Appointment 11 (academic support) + Appointment 12 (research) + Appointment 13 (student services).

Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) Faculty (fall) - (used by IPEDS)

The full-time-equivalent (FTE) of professional staff is calculated by summing the total number of full-time professional staff from the Employees by Assigned Position (EAP) component and adding one-third of the total number of part-time professional staff. For faculty, the categories included were: primarily instruction, primarily public service, and primarily research. (See below for category explanations.)

The following factors were used for the FTE Faculty calculation:

SUM of

(A1 + B1/3)
(A2 + B2/3)
(A3 + B3/3)
(A4 + B4/3)

Where

  • A1=Full-time, Primarily instruction total (EAPRECTP=2110)
  • B1=Part-time, Primarily instruction total (EAPRECTP=3110)
  • A2=Full-time, Instruction combined with research/public service (EAPRECTP=2120)
  • B2=Part-time, Instruction combined with research/public service (EAPRECTP=3120)
  • A3=Full-time, Primarily research total (EAPRECTP=2130)
  • B3=Part-time, Primarily research total (EAPRECTP=3130)
  • A4=Full-time, Primarily public service total (EAPRECTP=2140)
  • B4=Part-time, Primarily public service total (EAPRECTP=3140)

Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) Students

Annualized FTE students represent the sum of undergraduate and technical (UT Brownsville) semester credit hours divided by 30, master’s and professional semester credit hours divided by 24, doctoral semester credit hours divided by 18. Semester credit hours include state-funded and excess hours.

First-time, full-time, degree-seeking (FTFTDS) undergraduate students (used by IPEDS)

A student, attending any institution for the first time at the undergraduate level, who is enrolled for 12 or more semester credit hours in a 4-or 5-year bachelor’s or associate’s degree program. Also referred to as “beginning undergraduates.”

FTE Academic Advisors

The figures are based on the percentage and duration of the appointment assigned to academic advising.

Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) Tenured/Tenure-Track Faculty (fall) - (used by IPEDS)

The following factors were used for the FTE for T/TT Faculty calculation:

SUM of

(A1a + A1b) + (B1a + B1b/3)
(A2a + A2b) + (B2a + B2b/3)
(A3a + A3b) + (B3a + B3b/3)
(A4a + A4b) + (B4a + B4b/3)

Where

  • A1a=Full time, Primarily instruction, With faculty status, Tenured faculty (EAPRECTP=2112)
  • A1b=Full time, Primarily instruction, With faculty status, Non-tenured faculty, on tenure track (EAPRECTP=2113)
  • B1a=Part time, Primarily instruction, Employees, With faculty status, Tenured faculty (EAPRECTP=3112)
  • B1b=Part time, Primarily instruction, Employees, With faculty status, Non-tenured faculty, on tenure track (EAPRECTP=3113)
  • A2a=Full time, Instruction combined with research/public service, With faculty status, Tenured faculty (EAPRECTP=2122)
  • A2b=Full time, Instruction combined with research/public service, With faculty status, Non-tenured faculty, on tenure track (EAPRECTP=2123)
  • B2a=Part time, Instruction combined with research/public service, With faculty status, Tenured faculty (EAPRECTP=3122)
  • B2b=Part time, Instruction combined with research/public service, With faculty status, Non-tenured faculty, on tenure track (EAPRECTP=3123)
  • A3a=Full time, Primarily research, With faculty status, Tenured faculty (EAPRECTP=2132)
  • A3b=Full time, Primarily research, With faculty status, Non-tenured faculty, on tenure track (EAPRECTP=2133)
  • B3a=Part time, Primarily research, Employees, With faculty status, Tenured faculty (EAPRECTP=3132)

  • A4b=Full time, Primarily public service, With faculty status, Non-tenured faculty, on tenure track (EAPRECTP=2143)
  • B4a=Part time, Primarily public service, Employees, With faculty status, Tenured faculty (EAPRECTP=3142)
  • B4b=Part time, Primarily public service, Employees, With faculty status, Non-tenured faculty, on tenure track (EAPRECTP=3143)
